Jack Garvey, a founding member of Stranch, Jennings & Garvey (SJ&G), has been selected as a recipient of one of the Missouri Lawyers Media’s 2025 ICON Awards, which celebrate the impressive careers of 22 distinguished legal professionals.
The ICON Awards recognize attorneys and judges aged 60 and above who have demonstrated dedication and achievement throughout their legal careers, held a long-standing commitment to the Missouri legal community, and demonstrated notable, sustained success and strong leadership within and outside the field of law.
“To be selected for this award is a great honor, especially in light of past and present winners, so for once in my life I am speechless,” Garvey said. “I think the best part of this award is what I learned over the years from the attorneys with whom I worked, as well as the ones I worked against and those I watched when I was on the bench. I very much enjoy my relationships with my colleagues. It is one of the best things about this profession.”
Garvey has been practicing law for more than 35 years. After serving as a circuit court judge for nearly 18 years, he then served as:
- plaintiff’s co-lead counsel in the NEC baby formula bellwether trial, Gill v. Abbott Laboratories, #2322-CC01251;
- plaintiff’s co-counsel in the Paxil litigation of Orrick v. GlaxoSmithKline, St. Louis City Circuit #1322-CC00079;
- co-lead counsel in the opioid litigation of Jefferson County v. Williams, #20JE-CC00029; and
- local counsel in numerous class action and mass tort cases in Missouri.
He was honored at the 2023 Missouri Lawyers Weekly Awards for his role in the In re: National Prescription Opiate Litigation settlement, which won first place in the Top Settlements category. He also received the “Person of the Year Award” from the Missourians Against Domestic Violence Organization in 1999.
Garvey works as a mediator and served in that capacity in the City of St. Louis v. Los Angeles Rams case #1722-CC00976. He also served as one of former Gov. Eric Greitens’ attorneys in the case of State v. Eric Greitens, filed in the City of St. Louis.
In addition to private practice, Garvey serves as an instructor of evidence at the Missouri Judicial College. He has served in the prosecuting attorney office in St. Louis, as an adjunct professor of law at Washington University Law School and St. Louis University, and as a former president of the St. Louis Public Library Board of Directors.
The 2025 ICON Awards will be presented on June 26, 2025, at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
