Nov 13, 2024

Stranch, Jennings & Garvey (SJ&G) attorney Michael Iadevaia was confirmed by Nashville’s Metro Council meeting on Oct. 15, 2024, as one of Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s four appointees to the newly formed Contract and Compliance Board.

The new board will oversee worker safety and pay complaints on Metro worksites. The board’s functions include:

  • Monitoring compliance with existing construction contracts related to construction activities on projects by the metropolitan government
  • Evaluating construction sites with existing contracts
  • Providing recommendations for the scope of safety plans for construction project procurement
  • Providing recommendations related to contractor payment application requirements
  • Studying best practices on public construction worksites and providing Metro Government worksite safety improvement recommendations
  • Creating subcommittees related to the performance of these duties
  • Conferring with Metro Government construction safety specialists in connection with any accident reported and measures taken to prevent similar accidents
  • Making recommendations to the Department of Finance for policies and practices regarding construction contacts
  • Accepting and investigating complaints related to existing construction contracts wherein the Metro Government is a party and related to the relevant construction sites

Iadevaia focuses his practice on labor union and worker representation across all labor and employment issues, including traditional labor, employment discrimination, wage and hour, and ERISA. In addition, he assists in the firm’s complex litigation and class action practice.

“I am honored to have Mayor O’Connell’s trust to serve our community on this important board, which he created at a critical time as our city rapidly expands beyond measure,” Iadevaia says. “I look forward to bringing my experience representing workers, unions, consumers and citizens — in Nashville and across the U.S. — to the board to make sure the workers providing their labor to build up our community are guaranteed basic dignity and protections.”
